Requirements to be a Flight Attendant in the USA


In the United States, generally the requirements to be a flight attendant are as follows:

  • At least 19 years old

  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Some college is preferred

  • Two or more years of customer service experience

  • Possess a valid passport

  • Fluent in English; ability to speak a second language is an asset

  • Willingness to relocate

  • Maximum height of 6.0 ft

  • Are flexible and adaptable to change

  • Are able to communicate effectively

  • Possess a positive attitude and a professional appearance

  • Are able to lift, push and/or pull a minimum of 40 lbs on a daily basis

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time on a daily basis

  • Ability to report to work as scheduled and on time

Plus a demonstrated ability to:

  • Coach and mentor

  • Receive direction and delegate duties as required

  • Execute directives upon delegation

  • Make sound decisions and efficiently solve problems

  • Work well in a team environment

  • Convey and receive messages to meet the needs of others

  • Handle stressful situations with ease
